Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir, owes its existence to the inspiration, pioneering work and farsightedness of its founder member, my grandfather, Hon'ble Late. Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray, a Gandhian, a staunch freedom fighter who played a major role in the formation of Maharashtra State and in inculcating Co-operative movement in Nashik District, an educationist and Ex-Revenue minister of then Bombay province. He is the founder the two well-known educational institutions in Nashik District, namely "Adivasi Seva Samiti" in 1945 and "Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir" in 1952. The major objective of these institutions was to provide the educational facilities to the masses from all the spheres, urban, rural and tribal. In 1959, he started a senior college at Malegaon. This gave a great boost to all the students in the North Maharashtra to achieve higher education goals.
The devotional motto of the institution Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir is "Bahujana Hitay Bahujana Sukhay". The institution has been registered under society's Registration Act 1860. After the demise of Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray, on 6th November 1961, his elder son, my father, Lokenete Vyankatrao Hiray took over the responsibility of the institution. Considering the urgent need of imparting higher education to the masses in Nashik city, one of the developing cities of northern Maharashtra, he decided to establish a college at the banks of the river Godavari in the serene atmosphere of Panchavati, Nashik. After the untimely demise of Hon’ble Vyankatro Hiray in 1980, it was named after him in 1983.
The college is mainly running commerce & Science stream with course BBA, BBA- CA & B.Sc. Comp.Science and M.Sc. Computer Science. Consider the demand of time & interest of students more than 800 students are seeking quality education in healthy academic atmosphere.
